World Economic Forum Davos 2023: Its annual meeting was held
recently. In the recently held World Economic Forum (WEF) Annual Meeting-2023,
India's economy has been described as resilient and its policy framework has
supported sustainable growth with very moderate inflation. Geeta Gopinath,
deputy managing director of EMF, has lauded India for doing well in comparison
to other major economies of the world. However, he cautioned about the growing
division in the world, saying that this could cause a setback to the global
growth rate.
Union Telecom Minister Ashwini Vaishnav participated in it
from the Indian side. In his speech, he said that India adopted a very
pragmatic approach to deal with the humanitarian and economic crisis arising
out of the COVID-19 pandemic. He further added that this has ensured moderate
inflation and high growth rate in the country. This meeting, which started from
January 16, will continue till January 20, in which 2700 leaders of 130
countries of the world will participate, including heads of 52 countries. This
time climate change and the Russia-Ukraine war will also be prominently
included in the major issues of the world's economy. Due to the Kovid-19
epidemic, this meeting did not take place for two years and after that this is
the first meeting.
The World Economic Forum is a Swiss non-profit and
international organization. This forum was founded in 1971 by Professor Claus
M. Schwab working at the University of Geneva under the name European
Management. The Forum provides a common platform for leading political,
business, social and academic leaders to shape global, regional and industrial
agendas. It is an independent and impartial organization which has no interest
of its own. However, it is recognized by the Swiss government as an
international organization for public-private cooperation. The Forum is famous
for holding its annual meeting in late January in Davos in the Eastern Alps
region of Switzerland. The meeting to be held on January 2023 this year was the
49th annual meeting of the World Economic Forum.
